While working on this piece, the song ‘No man is an island’ by Tenth Avenue North, played on a loop. The proverb comes from a sermon written by the poet John Donne, “No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main…” It was the meaning behind these powerful words that I could relate to. No one is truly self-sufficient, everyone must rely on association in order to thrive. Many of us are really lucky to have such fortitude in the form of our immediate circle of association, and for some, it’s a hope.
